On Thursday, February 8, Angola submitted its letter of accession to the solemn declaration on the Single African Air Transport Market to the African Union (AU). The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the continental organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The letter of accession, presented by the Angolan Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and ECA, Miguel César Bembe, was signed by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on September 29, 2023, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
The Angolan diplomat stated that by submitting this document, Angola became the 37th member state to undertake this procedure and reiterated the country’s strong commitment to a more integrated and interconnected Africa, positioning itself as a strong and influential global player. He mentioned, “Angola considers leadership, political commitment, fair and inclusive participation, citizen empowerment, and the revitalization of strategic planning as absolutely essential factors in shaping the future of Africa and ensuring the success of the ambitious goals of the African continent.”
The diplomat emphasized that the choices outlined in the Long-Term Development Strategy (Angola 2050), a strategic document guiding the entire national planning system, support the domestication of key commitments made by the Angolan state at regional, continental, and international levels through national development plans.”
